Between the 10th and 12th of July, two representatives of UKS NAVIGO SOPOT - Jacek Noetzel in a Wingfox catamaran and Daniel Cieślik in a Flyer took part in the Dutch A-Class (one-man catamaran) Open Championships, organized by the Hellecat club. There were 34 competitors from Holland, Germany, Belgium, Spain and Poland. On the Friday, conditions were very difficult with rain and strong winds gusting to 7 B, and the regatta was delayed till 5 p.m. when the wind eased off slightly and 3 races were possible. In the strong wind Jacek did very well coming 6th, 5th and 8th. On Saturday the weather improved a little allowing 5 races, but on Sunday the gales retuned and only 2 took place. The regatta was won by Matthias Dietz from Germany, with Holland’s Arno Terra second and Roeland Wentholt, also from Holland, taking third. Jacek Noetzel finished 8th and Daniel Cieślik 21st. Eighth position was a very good result for Jacek’s first start with our boat in international competition. Our competitors made new international contacts, arranged future training and regattas and invited their new friends to compete in Sopot.
